The nose had enchanting sweetness (honey, golden syrup, toffee, caramel, figs, dates, Jaffa cakes) contained in a heart-shaped frame of wood (oak, polished mahogany, old book shops) - but floral perfumes also spilled gradually from the glass – jasmine, orange blossom, old roses.
The neat palate was absolutely beautiful – oak and lolly sticks, candied orange, dark chocolate, toffee and lavender combined to produce instant relaxation and comforting warmth.
With water, the nose found cumin, ginger and chilli and the palate encountered light liquorice, aniseed, pepper, gingerbread and brandy snaps, with marshmallow sweetness persisting through the spice.
The distillery is next to Benriach.
