We were at the end of a bracing early morning walk on the beach with the gentle touch of a cool fresh briny breeze in our faces stepping into the cottage where aromas of bacon cracklings in the pan, a warm sponge cake and freshly smoked mackerels awaited us. The taste was cosy; a warm peat fire, sweet apple strudel and traditional Scotch pancakes. Water released aromas of woolly jumpers being dried by the fire and for lunch grilled sea bream with bouillabaisse sauce and mussels were being prepared. Sweet flavours dominated the palate; peat smoked iced gems, sweet apple sauce and sweet pork cracklings.
